Re: Smoke and mirrors?

Astros.com has an article about Backe seeking a second opinion on his injury from the Angels' specialist. He is hoping that the second opinion confirms the Astros' team physician's recommendation of...

Re: Smoke and mirrors?

I think Purpura has to do that instead of saying oh yeah he'll be back in 6 weeks. Look how the Cubs handle their pitchers having injuries. They downplay it until it becomes obvious something is worse...

Re: Smoke and mirrors?

I'm for errring on the side of caution with Backe. He has shown some good stuff, and AstroinOC is right: We certainly don't want to give him the "Cubs Treatment." Wandy and Taylor can hold things...

Re: Smoke and mirrors?

What I meant by the "Cubs Treatment" was using pitchers too much or using pitchers when they're not completely healthy. I imagine that goes on on all clubs, not just the Cubs. But the Cubs are a high...

Re: Smoke and mirrors?

The issue in the case of Backe and Miller is that they need to tell the club when they are hurt. Misrepresenting injuries and simply not knowing about them are two entirely different things. Heck, I...
